Nexus Event on Intentional Leadership Draws Record Attendance

Cranston, R.I. – Monday, October 7, 2019—The Women in Leadership Nexus’ fall chapter event, “Intentional Leadership: Own Your Potential,” drew a record number of attendees and geographic diversification as more than 100 business leaders—from Florida to Pennsylvania to Rhode Island—gathered to explore how to have a greater sense of ownership over their personal and leadership potential. The event featured three acclaimed speakers—Katie McDonald, Jill Marinelli and Diane Wilbur—who explored the concept of Intentional Leadership, specifically how women can be more deliberate around three core facets that shape potential: wellness, style and presence.

“We were inspired by the overwhelming interest among our members and the larger leadership community to explore how we as women can continue to up-level our leadership potential,” says Carrie Majewski, Nexus Founder. “The large number of attendees—and sizable wait list for this event—demonstrate to us a continued, and rising, passion among women to fully own all parts of their leadership development and to feel empowered to accelerate their careers on their own terms.”

“To me, it’s indicative of a larger trend of women fiercely believing they can demand more from their selves and that they hold all the skill sets, perspectives and techniques needed to amplify their potential; they just need to be more intentional about doing so,” she added.

The more than 100 attendees ranged from solopreneurs to corporate C-suite officials to entry-level professionals and spanned all industries from finance to nonprofit to healthcare to education, among others.

Attendees dove into specific techniques and frameworks they can leverage as they look to be more intentional about cultivating the right habits and behaviors. For example, the speakers offered methods for communicating more authoritatively, prioritizing and investing in self-care as a career accelerator, and leveraging the power of enclothed cognition to allow one’s style to be a strategic weapon, among other things. Each speaker had specific takeaways for the group.

McDonald, Self-Care Strategist and Speaker and founder of bnourished: “Two main thoughts: The habit of over-functioning for everyone else and under-performing for ourselves undermines our ability to lead. When reactivity is the norm, we abdicate our power.”

Marinelli, personal stylist, public speaker and style correspondent for CBS Providence’s The Rhode Show: “What have traditionally been called ‘soft skills’ have proven to be more important than ever in establishing ourselves as leaders. Approaching personal style with greater intention empowers women to craft their own image, help communicate powerfully who they are to others, and leads to increased confidence that propels them forward in both their personal and professional lives."

Wilbur, CEO of Soft Skills Training Group: “Imagine a world in which you can see the blind spots that have prevented you from reaching your maximum potential. A world that relies heavily on strong and fulfilling relationships. A world in which we all have the ability to show up more powerfully, enhance our confidence and strengthen our influence. I see a world in which we can all reach our dreams and highest aspirations. A high level of self awareness allows us to connect on a deeper level, build rapport and pick up on hidden messages conveyed only through body language. Body language is the silent language of leaders. It is a universal language that connects us in ways that language doesn't.”

The Women in Leadership Nexus is a professional association that empowers women to reach an amplified level of leadership, fueled to be the agents of change and co-creators of a different leadership paradigm. Nexus women choose to invest in their careers, unequivocally understanding that there is always more to grab.

The next event, “Experience = Power, Where You’ve Been Leads to Your Most Fulfilling Future,” takes place Dec. 17 from 3:30-6:30 pm in Providence, Rhode Island.
