Nexus to Tackle Hierarchical, Systems-Old Leadership Approaches May 1
Cranston, R.I. – Monday, March 2, 2020—The Women in Leadership Nexus, founded to empower women to reach an amplified level of leadership and co-create a different leadership paradigm, will tackle how to dismantle hierarchical, systems-old approaches to leadership and the workplace for its May 1 leadership intensive.
The event, “How to Change the Leadership Game,” will invite attendees to consider how they can challenge normative beliefs about leadership, model forward-thinking leadership principles, and evolve the workplace of today.
“Nexus was founded around the belief that the way the business world and leadership spaces operate today are still fundamentally rooted in archaic—and often patriarchal—beliefs and approaches,” says Carrie Majewski, Nexus Founder. “Our association comes together to help our members cultivate the skill sets, perspectives and relationships that allow us to build a new leadership paradigm that is rooted around fresh principles like empowerment, co-creation, partnership, inclusion, and countless others so that we can positively shape the business world of tomorrow.”
“We could not be more excited to introduce this leadership intensive to our members and the larger community to activate the belief in each and every attendee that hold all the power to start positively changing the leadership game,” she adds.
The training will kick off with attendees having the chance to hear from four game-changers, in a series of TED-like talks, who will talk about the specific ways they are challenging normative beliefs and evolving the leadership ecosystem. Speakers include: Sterling Clinton-Spellman, Hilary B. Jones, Lois Kelly and Heather Parbst.
Clinton-Spellman is an entrepreneur, coach, consultant, speaker, three-times bestselling author, Producer of POLISHED Con: The Ultimate Personal Development Experience and founder of the Refine, Lead and Profit Incubator, Cultivating Visionaries to Live Profitable Lives by providing them with the tools, resources, network, and accountability. Her TED-talk "Take the Mask Off: How to Survive as You,” will focus on the power of authenticity and how to show up as you each and every day.
Jones, Ph.D. helping small- to medium-sized businesses and non-profits create equitable workplaces through training, facilitation, and consultation, will speak on “A Workplace of One's Own: Flipping the Script on the Traditional Workplace.”
“Many workers don't realize the possibility of a workplace without drama, where their experiences and identities are supported,” says Jones. “Or perhaps they've dreamt it, but they don't know how to achieve it. Whether you are a manager or an employee, addressing the gender, communication, identity, and power dynamics at play in the traditional workplace can lead to improvements in employee morale, retention, and—most importantly—overall happiness. Profits go up and people want to go to work- everyone wins.”
Kelly, co-founder of the global Rebels at Work Movement and author of five books, including Rebels at Work: Dispatches (May 2020) and Rebels at Work: A Handbook for Leading Change from Within (Nov. 2014), will speak on, “Be a Brave-Hearted Rebel at Work.”
“It’s easy to rage and rebel against what doesn’t work,” says Kelly. “But successful change makers are tenacious and kind doers; they navigate obstacles in unusual ways, cultivate resiliency, and move ideas forward with all the best aspects of feminine energy. I look forward to sharing provocative and practical highlights from our leading the global “Rebels at Work” movement over the past decade.”
Parbst, a Senior Advisor and Director of Operations at Velocity Advisory Group, will be speaking on “Celebrate the Non-Linear Career Path,” focusing on how to shift from looking at your career as a journey rather than a destination, how a lack of specialization can actually be a badge of honor and why your newness to a job or industry may be precisely what makes you successful.
“We don’t have to be just one thing. Allowing ourselves to move through our fears and follow careers that inspire us may be the best way we can serve ourselves and the world,” says Parbst.
Following their talks, attendees will be asked to reflect on the biggest ways they want to change the game and leave with practical ways to do so.
The event takes place from 8 am to 12 pm at the Radisson Hotel in Warwick, Rhode Island, the exclusive sponsor for the event.
